Since an early age music has been a very important part of Vinay’s life. After 15 years of rigorous traditional training of vocal classical music from Pt. Eknath Kulkarni (disciple of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan), he gave public performances in India. As a recipient of the French Government Fellowship he pursued his research in Physics that earned him a PhD degree in France. At the same time he gave recitals all over France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland & on the French Radio. He was regularly invited to teach Indian music to French musicians at the Conservatory of Paris, particularly the aspects of voice techniques and improvisation.
In Canada and USA he has given lectures and seminars in many universities and has been teaching Indian Music in Ottawa. Since the fall session of 2002 he has been appointed as Adjunct Research Professor at the Music Department, Carleton University, Ottawa. Two courses on Indian Music that are now part of the curriculum are conceived and taught by Vinay.
Since September 2006, he has been conducting the Indian Music Performance group which comprises of music students from The Carleton University and other deserving participants from the community. Music for an award winning Canadian feature film “A Passage to Ottawa“ which was released in April 2002 was composed by him. CDs, LPs and Cassettes have been published by renowned recording companies in India and France.
